Re: Ethics and Choice
Huh. Interesting. I'm very much a believer in canon, so if the author tells me something, I'll accept it. But what if I could tell the author differently?
I think I'd still accept that a) JK Rowling knows Harry Potter better than me and b) Dumbledore knows what he's doing. For me to influence it is essentially fanfic, and I don't want to be responsible for a fanfic replacing the original.
Open Room 2.

Re: Ethics and Choice
Dumbledore was probably under a lot of magical pain and was probably suffering from several magical effects of old age. By the end he had many copied memories, his brain was probably full.
Also, dumbledore also died to protect harry potter, I think that is why he was able to communicate with harry potter when he passed on. Otheriwse harry potter would be an unchanging copy of himself.

Re: Ethics and Choice
CHOICE 49:
Who Is Responsible?
Brad just killed a man, and in an example of everything that is moral and just about the legal system, he's been sentenced to life imprisonment. And that is how it should be. But in between committing the murder and being found guilty, Brad stepped into a matter duplicator. Now Brad has a clone - a perfect copy, with all Brad's memories. Including the memory of killing a man. Can the clone be held responsible for the murder?
ROOM 1:
If you open the door to Room 1, the clone goes directly to jail. According to his own testimony and memory, he is a murderer; and his brain is one that once chose to end another man's life.
ROOM 2:
If you open the door to Room 2, the clone walks free. After all, he didn't commit the murder - he didn't even exist at the time.

1, clearly, though it requires me to accept some of your assertions.
In either case, Brad and his clone are equal dangers to society.

Lights flash, sirens blare, and Brad's clone goes to jail (without passing Go, without collecting two hundred dollars). Now two people are serving time for only one crime, but at least that menace is off the streets.
