Re: My first Bay12 game
How's it compare to MafiaScum and Resplect?

Re: My first Bay12 game
WTF seriously?
Our games are not anywhere near the "pro" games on larger websites. We've only run one standard setup, and it wasn't even on this domain. The ones here have been mostly unbalanced and gimmicky (thought not necessarily less/more fun). We don't play enough with enough people to fine tune mafia to any acceptable "pro" standard. We're novices anyway (I am at least, looking at my win record on MS). Somebody run a mountainous!
Either way, skills gained here will not make you win at mafia in the realworld internet.
Actually, this made me think. Anyone met any new friends they want to introduce to this? I might make a post in the news section suggesting it. Activity's down, and new members are at an all time low.
Edit: This probably seems a bit harsh, when I wrote it I was literally laughing out loud. DOn't take it personally, what I meant is that we've lived in a sheltered environment, with players we've come to know well (stylistically), and no real reason to evolve our gameplay. In a competitive environment, where people quickly learn which strategies will make you lose against an equally skilled player (like not having one), and so tries something new. Eventually, one of those will work, and it will start winning. Cue the opponent to do the same thing. Even comparing the way games on MS were a year ago to today, you can see how the games have changed. "Scumtells" have fallen into disuse, and there seemed to be a trend towards a structured Day 1 (for example, I haven't played in ages, so it's probably changed). Resplect can't do that, since we play few games in wildly different game environments (setups). I can only really compare it to the way Starcraft 2's balance has evolved with new ways to play defeating strategies that had previously seemed unbeatable (at a pro level). We're still feeling our way around Bronze league, trying stuff, so optimisation (and competitiveness on a larger scale, against people who know how to play) is impossible.
We should totally start playing SC2. A good Resplect FFA once in a while. The game's only $75, and a good connection's not too hard to do. Most moderately-modern PC's will run it at medium. Do it. Dooo it.
ITT: Alex gets off topic.

Re: My first Bay12 game
I've started playing on MS; I've died in my first game:

Alex, remember MagnaofIllusion? He won a Scummy for best new player.
I haven't signed up for another game yet, since the break's coming up, but after that I think I'll join a newbie game, and when it's about halfway through Day 1 I'll join another.
BTW, I know no one else...

I read the scummies...it's like reading about who won the handegg. No stalking at all.The King of Eggs wrote:Alex Steiner wrote:Yes, and yes. I saw that.Supreme Overlord wrote:Alex, remember MagnaofIllusion? He won a Scummy for best new player.

'The handegg'? Or is that 'hand, Egg' (either way, I don't get it)

It works for Australian Handegg League, as well as any other game with similar shaped eggs. The King of Eggs wrote:Supreme Overlord wrote:'The handegg'? Or is that 'hand, Egg' (either way, I don't get it)
