The Rebellion Empty The Rebellion

Post by Alex Steiner Thu Oct 07, 2010 12:06 pm

The Rebellion A_long10
It is a period of civil war. Rebel spaceships, striking
from a hidden base, have won their first victory
against the evil Galactic Empire. During the battle,
Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans
to the Empire’s ultimate weapon, the DEATH STAR
...
to 5 FORTIFIED BASES located across the galaxy.

A strike force of several proven individuals has been
dispatched, but the Empire has discovered its
existence. They have infiltrated this small group
with a force of their own, ruthless double agents
whose aim is to sabotage the Rebels' assaults on the
Empire's bases. The Rebels must choose a raiding
force of 3-5 trustworthy individuals to carry the
plans and help destroy each base.

This mission will decide the fate of the galaxy...

Objective: Destroy 3 of the 5 bases if you are the Rebels, and protect 3 of the 5 bases if you are the Empire, through deception, strategy, and sabotage.

1. Role Assignment: Each of the players secretly receives one of two roles, either Rebellion, or Empire (6 rebellion and 3 empire members are put in a 9P game, but we can modify balance). The Empire is the informed minority in this game, and thus will learn the identities of all their partners before the game begins. The Rebels will know nobody's role but their own. However, no players will ever be allowed to have private conversations out of thread. All discussion must be out in the open.

One (random) player will also become the first Leader. This role will be made public.

2. Plan Delegation: The game begins with attacking the first base (these appear as numbers at the top). The Leader will delegate a certain number of Plans to each player in the game. How many plans are given to the players is shown on the number beneath the base, (the numbers will be lower if fewer players join). After any desired discussion is carried out, the Leader will propose a delegation of the Plans as follows:

Delegate Plans: [Player A], [Player B], [Player C]

3. Voting: Once the proposal is made, players vote by PM as to whether or not they agree with the Proposal made with a vote of YES or NO. If a majority (half the bunch, round down, add 1) say YES, then the proposal passes, and we go to step 4.

If it fails, the Leader role rotates, and a new proposal is made for the attack on the same base. Be warned, if 5 consecutive votes fail, the Empire will win the game automatically. The fail delegations will show on the outline of the boxes at the bottom.

4. Plan Execution: The players delegated the Plans will then decide whether to SUPPORT or SABOTAGE the mission by PM. All Rebels MUST support the mission, but the Empire has a choice of which option they choose.

5. Aftermath: The decisions are tallied and the results revealed in-thread, simply saying how many supported and how many sabotaged the mission, without stating who exactly chose which option.

If even 1 person sabotages, the Empire prevails and defends that base successfully. If everyone decides to support, the base is destroyed and the result is in favor of the Rebels. The first faction to protect/destroy 3 bases wins, but if neither has achieved that result yet, leadership rotates, the next base in line is targeted, and we go back to Plan Delegation.

Base 4 (The Maw) in a 7+ player game requires TWO saboteurs for the mission to fail and the base protected for the Empire. This is the only time where a lonely saboteur will not make the mission fail.

Deadline for Plan Delegation is 120 hours, deadline for Plan Execution and Voting is 48 hours.

Role PMs:

Rebellion Role PM wrote:You are in the Rebellion.
Empire Role PM wrote:You are in the Empire. The faction is comprised of [name], [name], [name], and [name].
The first 2 bases (Kessel and Kashyyyk) require three people on plans, 3 and 4 (Kuat and The Maw) require 4 on plans, and base 5 (Coruscant) requires 5.

Wouldn't that be three games? And weren't you just taking INS for a fourth?

The changes you made. Not extra ones.

OK, fair enough.

This thread is for comments at the moment. Would you play it? Would it work? Is my flavour OK?

Each round, the Leader suggests a number (dependent on the base) of people to give the plans to, which may include themselves. The whole band of rebels votes on whether they accept this or not. Discussion ensues. Voting is private, but who voted what is revealed at the end of the voting phase. Once the plan distribution has been agreed upon, then you move on to the mission itself, where the empire players decide whether to sabotage (if there are even empire players with plans). In the aftermath, the number of sabotages is posted, but not who did them. Worst case for empire is an all empire team that all sabotage, since that outs them all as empire infiltrators. This is why they know the other members of their team, even if they can't talk.

If the Leader's selection of plan-bearers is rejected, the position cycles, and they must suggest a new set.

Discussion is ongoing, there are no nights. All actions are done by PM.

Where should the bases be (Star Wars knowledge required)? I've come up with Kessel, Kuat and Coruscant.

Those were never Empire bases. In fact, Hoth was (mostly) uninhabited until discovered by Luke and colonised by the rebels. Alderaan, though controlled by the empire, was a staunch supporter of the rebellion movement, until it's inevitable demise.

Check Empire at War. From memory, The Maw was Empire.

Can one player hold more than one plan? Just the way you've written it, I'm kinda unsure.

Cool. I'd play.

Nope, flavour wise it would be 3 separate explosives to be planted.

How would one destroy The Maw installation? Hmmm...

That was where Death Star 1 was created.

Well, you can destroy the installation, like the actual space station. Getting rid of the black holes may be harder...

I like your scrawl, though.

So, Kessel, Kashyyyk, Kuat, The Maw and Coruscant? In that order?

That sounds about right.

So, that's 3. Doesn't really work with less than 6 or so...and then I'd have to adjust the saboteurs required.
