How'd you infer that? The King of Eggs wrote:the woman planned to kill the man before the picnic.
Either way, it's true.
The death of the man was premeditated by the woman.

My logic is incompressible usually.
Did the woman tamper with the food.
Is the food a red herring. (spelling?)

The woman tampered with the food at some point.
Neither the man nor the woman consumed any species of herring.

Define "Red Herring" then .
Or perhaps ask something more pointed, like "Was such and such directly related to the events in question"

Re: I don't know what to call this
I know, when you say apple you actually mean a Mac product, which are evil and they poison the mind and bodies of once great people until they become a pale, creepy, husk of their former selves and they sent to an early grave. men seem to be particularly prone to being corrupted by this poison. hence the man ate hald an I-Pod and died and horrible and cruel Mac death.

The food was not the direct cause of death.
The food indirectly caused the man's death.

The woman had access to poisons.

I liked Darth's idea (which I bet Alex just ignored)
TO be clear, we're looking for cause and details of death, and motivation. Antyhing else?
Were the couple having issues with one another?the woman used a knife that had poison on one side but not the other so that when she cut the apple in half she took the side without poison on it.

No, that about covers it. Motivation is unimportant in this case (ie I haven't made up one).
If "issues" include the woman planning the death of the man, then...
The couple were having "issues".
I have decided to ignore non-blue statements. Either ask a question, or infer a result.

Alex Steiner wrote:A man and his wife are having dinner. They each have the same foods as the other, until they reach the apple. There is only one. The wife takes the apple, and cuts it in half, sharing one half with her husband. They finish their meal, drink their wine, and pack to leave. As they are leaving, the husband collapses, dead. How did this happen and why?
Just thought I would point this out. No motive apparently...

Why did he die, as opposed to why was he murdered. Remember, you didn't know it was murder then. Though, I admit it could have been better worded.
Correct (the issue being the fact he was alive ).The King of Eggs wrote:The food was poisoned by the woman to fix some issue.

And that's it.
Damn you, Darth. How do you come up with this?
The wife had some reason to want the husband dead. They each had identical meals, including the apple, which she cut using a poisoned knife, eating her half, while he willingly ate his half. Obviously (I would have specified if you'd asked), the poison was invisible and odourless.
New puzzle thing incoming. Harder this time. Do you understand the concept now?

Re: I don't know what to call this
A man goes hunting. He bags his kill, and goes home. Once he gets home, he prepares himself a meal. He takes 3 bites, gets up, writes a letter which he leaves on the table, and then gets his gun, and shoots himself. Why?
Begin.
There is one additional paragraph I can add if you lose direction and are stumped. Shouldn't need it though.

Re: I don't know what to call this
OK, that's handy; we know the kind of thing you're looking for.
Does the man realise something after three bites?
Is the meal made from the kill?
Is the letter a suicide note?
Would he have gotten up, written the letter and shot himself after only two bites?
I noticed this after nearly writing 'killed himself'; it doesn't say he died.
Does the gun shoot a deadly projectile?
Is the man Elmer Fudd, who has just shot Bugs Bunny?
Is the man well-known?
I (initially, at least) read this as the man has gone out hunting, killed a cow (or something), gone home, cut it up, started eating, notice the telltale neck-piercing (or something), realised it's Bessy, the cow he's loved from birth who must have excaped that morning, and decided to commit suicide.
I've got a couple of lateral thinking puzzles, if you'll let me have a go once we get this one.

The man did realise something after those three bites.Supreme Overlord wrote:OK, that's handy; we know the kind of thing you're looking for.

The meal is mostly made from the kill.
The letter is not a suicide note. Bolded for emphasis.A suicide note or death note is a message that states the author has committed (or plans to commit) suicide, and left to be discovered and read in anticipation of suicide.
The man did not get up, write a letter and shoot himself after two bites. He instead took a third bite. You can't really ask a "would" question, if the scenario you suggest is already denied by the given information. He obviously didn't realise anything (see previous answer) after two bites.
The gun shoots a deadly projectile. It kills him.
The man is not Elmer Fudd, who has just shot Bugs Bunny. He's not Daffy Duck, either. Related, but not to the puzzle. Quality is bad, but you get the point.
The man is not well-known beyond his average sized circle of family, friends and colleagues. He's not a celebrity of any sort.

Re: I don't know what to call this
Well, you never specifically said he killed himself, just that he shot himself.
Oops, forgot the yes/no clause. REALISATION: Wait, 'Would' is still yes/no. You were just clarifying. Carry on.
The man wrote a note, then committed suicide, but the note did not state that the man planned to commit suicide.
Is the meal poisonous?
Did the man kill a mammal?
Did the man kill a bird?
Did the man kill a fish?
Did the man kill a reptile?
Were there writing implements on the table?
Did the man live alone?

The specific type or species of animal is unimportant. I can make one up, if you like.
There were no writing implements on the table.
The man lived alone.

Did the man write a set of instructions, or an explanation of his actions?
Was there a delay between writing the note and shooting himself?
Musing aloud: what's so special about 3 bites?
