There was no extraneous delay between writing the letter and the shooting. As long as it takes to "git ur guun", and load it etc.

What, Darth's answer to the last one? There were no questions asked, it was not a response to an answer I gave. It was also correct without half the fun. I didn't miss it (How could I? It was the solution!). I ignored it.

The letter indirectly explained his actions, but only to the right person/people.

The man had not prepared a will.
The man enjoyed the meal, for the first two bites at least.

The weapon may or may not have been the gun he used to commit suicide - it is unimportant (in the same way the species of animal is unimportant).

In order for the universe that the scenario takes place in to be as consistent as possible, any detail that doesn't lead somewhere is better left ambiguous - it avoids arguments about "Hey, you said he was hunting fish." In short, you're looking in the wrong place if you get a similar message to above.

The man has a severe limp in his right leg.

The preparation of the meal had nothing to do with him killing himself, other than the fact he was preparing his last meal, although he didn't know that.
