Minecraft Resplect Multiplayer
As you may know, I recently started a Minecraft Classic server for Resplect. This thread will contain instructions for access, screenshots and rules (which are ingame as well, but meh).
To access the Resplect server:
Troubleshooting:
Resplect Server does not appear on the list - Chances are I've turned off the PC with the server on it. I haven't decided how much I'll leave the server running, but if it's a reasonable hour (evening's best), try PMing me. I'll possibly respond, and start the server up (just for you!). Otherwise, post here, and we can organise a time when we can get on together.
Some other problem I haven't thought of - I'll add more later.
List of players:
Alex Steiner - Alex_Steiner
Reverse Simplicity - xSimplicityx
The King of Eggs - The_King_of_Eggs
Darth - Skywalkerbacca
You!
List of worlds:
Use "/goto <worldname>" to switch. All but main will be unloaded by default. Try "/load <worldname>", just remember to /unload when you're done (to free up server RAM)..
main - an island with one mountain and several smaller hills. I think it's the best for building (besides the uninspiring flat).
flat - a perfectly flat grassy plain - use it for big buildings and other things you don't want to clear space for
mountains - a very steep, tree covered highlands, good for cave fortresses currently flooded with a mushroom of water
pixel - a cube with white walls, use it for pixel art. Good with the "/fly" command
forest - a heavily treed plain. Annoying because it's so thick you can't walk easily, build on trees for best results.
ocean - big landless expanse (although the bottom is somewhat hilly). Build boats, domes and other water themed items.
desert - waves of undulating sands, interspersed with cacti. Do with it what you will.
main is 256 cubed, while the others are only 128 in each direction, since they were created for testing. If we want bigger, ask. Just remember bigger = slower and more lag.
Screenshots:
Submit some more! Looking for panoramic shots of the worlds, not a picture of your house though.
To access the Resplect server:
- Create an account at Minecraft.net (if you haven't already). No payment is necessary (the server runs the free version). Be sure to verify it with an email address.
- From the minecraft.net homepage, click "multiplayer" to bring up the list of servers (direct link). Make sure it says "Logged in as <username>" at the top.
- Search for "Resplect Server", and click on it. If all goes well, you're in. You can look around and admire the work of your fellow members, Unfortunately you can't build anything yet (imagine if anyone strayed in out of the internet could build and break!), so either ask in Minecraft (if anyone's there), or request access in this thread.

We should organise a time to get on together. Might start some projects.

Re: Minecraft Resplect Multiplayer
Just spent 6 hours on there with Darth. the world is now populated with tunnels thanks to Darth, and if you go to the "water" level (/goto water), you'll see my sealed underwater dome (with tunnels underneath it thanks to Darth). Rules: If it's made of glass, don't touch it. One broken block will flood the whole dome.
Darth apparently made a spongebob statue somewhere underwater around the main island, and built a system of rooms under his massive stone tower.

Re: Minecraft Resplect Multiplayer
I'm not going to leave it running if there's no interest - it uses up processing power, RAM (this is the main thing) and a steady trickle of upload usage (when it updates to the central minecraft server). If no one's using it, I'm not going to leave it on for hours at a time.
If it was online, would you use it? If so, when are you online (and interested in playing Minecraft)?

Sort of kills the "multiplayer" aspect, but I suppose collaboration and showoffery is still possible (you can look at my pyramid and dome without me, and if we were working on a joint project, one person could work on it when they're online, then the other and so on).
Only problem is leaving PC on all night for one person. It's not exactly an ultra quiet HTPC, and it's right across the room. I'll consider it. You better be nice to me (or grow some initiative and start your own. Please don't do that. I like attention.)
How many others would use it? I assume Darth would, as he already has a large tower and cavern system. I will if others will (the attention seeking again ). Anyone else?
As Darth can attest, internet speed and ping doesn't have to be good, a crappy connection just means your actions take a delay to appear to everyone else (which is only a problem if two people both try to fix the same mistake at the same time, so two blocks get deleted, then they both try to fix it, so two blocks are placed and so on, but you easily work around that).
Would you play if a time was organised for collaboration in REEL TIEM? Would you just prefer to contribute individually to a shared world?
Say we agree on a weekend evening or something (Friday night

Re: Minecraft Resplect Multiplayer
Closer inspection has shown that some of Darth's mining expeditions have compromised the sand stability on the main world. Sinkholes have been marked and covered with raw_wood blocks (like trees are made of). Be careful, as I have likely missed holes everywhere. They are characterised by narrow (1-3 tile) holes that fall almost to the bedrock, only found in sand and gravel). Some may be flooded (since water collects in the sand), some may be open air. Please cover any you may find.

Re: Minecraft Resplect Multiplayer
Resplect Server is back after a short downtime while I moved to my new PC. While the map layouts were saved, player settings (block counts, visits, even build privileges were lost). Fixing permissions now, but there's no easy way to get counts back.
I'll see how I go .
Either way, the server is ready for anyone who wants t build on it, now with a better PC behind it for larger maps and faster load times^.
It's worth mentioning that it's still a classic server, since not enough of us have premium accounts (I'm still undecided).
^Actual load times may vary depending on internet connection. Please contact your ISP for more information.
