On account of Overlords post in ‘Ethics and Choice’ decrying how I have strayed from providing Ethical issues in my scenarios into some bizarre choose your own adventure, I have decided to create this topic for especially that (seems though these choose your own adventure games have tended to garner peoples interest). As such I am going to try and create a more novel like game, with you making more of the decisions.

I will start by asking what genre you would like the story to beset in providing a couple of examples:

Fantasy: Your basic ‘Lord of the Rings’ epic
Sci-Fi: A ‘Star Wars’ like space opera
Thriller: General spy and intrigue type
Romance: don’t you think Eggs and Reverse would make a great couple?

Post in thread the type of story you would want and an example of a book to further clarify your choice.

Ooh, this could be fun.

It's worth differentiating between setting and style. You can have sci-fi thriller, or sci-fi romance etc etc

For setting, some other common options include early 20th century urban type; typical western; and of course there are varying levels of fantasy (from medieval with a few fantasy elements all the way up to high fantasy with the works.

I don't think romance would work seriously.

You'd need to strike a balance between a story you wrote that doesn't offer choice (ie it keeps returning to this path no matter what), and a story with no cohesion created entirely on players' whims. It's up to you to keep the atmosphere consistent, but give players enough freedom to build the world we create.

Fist of all, good idea to split the threads.

I'll vote fantasy. An example of style could be 'Codex Alera' or 'The Dresden Files'. Magic/powers are good; but specialised is probably better than all-purpose. It's good if there's a system in place (authorities etc) that we can work under (or against).

Yes, I messaged him but he has yet to post, Sid and Reverse can you give examples of books (or movies or television show etc) that you would like the setting to be like so far the fanasty has it with Codex Alera and the Dresden Files being Idea for tone I have.

If you are the next step is creating your character, this isn't going to be a typical choose your own adventure game in the fact that I'm not going to give you any choices you are going to create a character and then control that characters actions only there will be no big group desicions where I give you one of three choices.

In this case I want everybody to create a vague character bio or outline (needs to include physical apperance and character traits post them in thread for now but we will solidify them later via PM.

My character will be tall, dark and handsome. You know what I look like, so just go with that...

Hmm, description. Moderate height; fairly inconspicious. Medium-length brown hair. Vivid blue eyes. Propensity for black longcoats/capes.

Character traits... Outwardly confident (we can decide later how accurate that it), with a flair for the dramatic. Way up there in terms of intelligence and genre savviness (although how that will go with Darth in charge is anyone's guess). Happy to work along but will deign to be part of a group if the situation calls for it.

I think we need to either create or extrapolate some character *flaws* as well. Be they standalone failings, or side-effects of other traits is unimportant.

true nobody is perfect charaters must have sone flaws if you wish to ad them into your bio be my guest otherwise I can make them up as we go.

Although I like the idea, I will not be participating in the Sandbox RPG. Never having played anything like it before without some effort on my own part I will easily be left out of the game.

I am disappointed by the response to this topic. There is some work involved with creating your character but after that your inclusion can be as minimal as you wish.

I shall be a thief/rogue. Agile, stealthy and precise; although I'd be somewhat weak in a head-on confrontation (maybe a dagger or something?). Being a thief, I'd probably bear hints of ulterior motives in any cooperative scenario, which might cause strife.
Proficiency with a bow, small-scale mechanics and possibly poisons or other chemistry alchemy (read: explosives). Probably a smooth-talker and good liar, able to induce gullible (or not so gullible) individuals to lower their guard. Very uncomfortable about discussing their profession with people who know about it.

How's that for a starting point?

two is better then one but we still need more characters, anybody else interested or know somwbody who may be interested we need new blood on Resplect.

I do wish to continue with this idea if anybody is game I would still prefer a minimum of around three - four main characters though
